Big Drop Pine Trail Pale Ale

A nose with hints of pine and honey, this pale ale is packed full of flavour from citrus-heavy hops with a twist of fresh lime to create a crisp, zesty beer

I was excited to try this non alcoholic beer, the Pine Trail Pale Ale from Big Drop Brewing Co., as it was the first time I have sampled any of their beers.

I have heard about Big Drop quite a bit, so I did some research into the company.

Whilst I knew that they specialised in non-alcoholic beers, what I didn’t realise is that the don’t remove alcohol from any of their beers, just produce them in a way that produces lower amounts during the fermentation stage.

I recommend you check out the story on the Big Drop website, but without further ado, lets get into the review!

Pine Trail Initial Review

For this review, I trialed Pine Trial from a can.

But pouring the can into a glass reveals a glowing amber coloured beer that is visibly carbonated with a reasonable head. Allowing to settle for a couple of minutes, it quickly quietens down to a thin layer of foam.

The aroma is wheaty, but with floral and citrus after tones.

I have seen other reviews that mention a pine aroma – unsurprisingly due to the name! – but I didn’t really get that.

Although the bubbles within the beer and the head die down quickly, the beer is nicely carbonated. Other than the tang of the carbonation remains, the beer is smooth although reasonably heavy.

Flavour wise, the taste is matched by the aroma, fairly floral and citrussy, but with a slight bitter after taste.

I was highly impressed with this beer, and thoroughly enjoyed drinking it! I try to remain professional whilst writing these reviews and make sure I finish the review before the beer.

But in this case, I just got too distracted – I just wish I had another on hand to open!

Overall, it is a great tasting IPA, and one that I will add to future orders.

I am excited to see what else is available from Big Drop, so expect a review for one of the other beers coming soon!

Big Drop Pine Trail 330mL Can

Although not complex or highly coloured, Big Drop definitely have a distinctive design to their cans that stand out on the shelf. For this review I trialled a can, but it is also possible to get Pine Trail in 330mL bottles.

This Special Edition brew from the award-winning Big Drop Brewing Co contains four hop varieties and not only brings the usual large fruit juice aromas of lime and grapefruit, but with an extra dash of bright orange, mango and lychee to give a smoother after-taste.

An eminent golden ray of sunshine, this malt forward offering brings a soft, honey aroma and a robust malt backbone, balanced with a gentle bitterness from the traditional noble hops and a delicate uplifting waft of citrus from the new world addition.

A classic hop-fest that fuses tropical flavours to recreate the intensity of a double IPA. The fantastic blend of US hops combine to give pineapple, citrus, pine and stone fruit aromas underpinned by a pine and herby flavour – topped off with an unapologetic slap of mango – to make this the ultimate summer thirst quencher

Aromas of cracker, light honey and pepper this lager is crisp, balanced with a suitable level of bitterness to ensure it has a dry, refreshing bite. Keep it nice and chilled. Goes well with any food eaten on a hot summers day.

This beautiful brown ale is malt-focused with a toasty aroma and soft grassy notes because of the light use of hops. The palate is malty with a touch of fruit and caramel. Pair this beer with something hearty like a good beef stew.

With notes of coffee, cocoa nibs and a lingering hint of sweet vanilla this beer is dark, rich and indulgent
