- Big, Juicy Fruit Flavour
- Lovely Bitter Finish
- Small Can
- Limited Edition
Brulo are a well known Alcohol free Brewery from Scotland. With their beers tending to be on the juicy side – including lots of fruit notes – I was expecting something similar with this.
This particular beer was brewed out in Zagreb, Croatia after their recent trip to see The Garden Brewery with Mash Gang. With this being a limited edition brew – and of course with Mash Gang having some involvement – I’m expecting this beer to take things up a level in hops and this to be packed full of the flavours. I’m also expecting to see some of traditional NEIPA characteristics, with a hazy look to the beer and an intense, tropical fruit centric, hop aroma and flavour.
Let’s see what it has to offer.
King For A Day Initial Review
King for a Day is the result of Brulo’s Recent trip to Croatian brewers, The Garden Brewery, alongside Mash Gang. There have been a few beers released from all breweries involved in this trip now and all have been to a high standard with characteristics from all 3 breweries noticeable in the beers. This particular beer is a NEIPA. They have used a big mix of malts and hops in this beer so will be expecting a big hoppy flavour.

On the pour, the beer certainly has the NEIPA look to it; a cloudy straw colour, with a great looking haze. This leads me into think this has not been filtered, as other alcohol free NEIPA’s tend to lose the haze when going through this process.

The beer has a fruity aroma to it with the most noticeable being grapefruit, which you also notice this in the flavour alongside some tropical stone fruit. It has a great mouthfeel, with the drink smoothly coating the inside of your mouth and leaving behind a fruity bitterness. It’s certainly one of the more enjoyable alcohol free NEIPA that I have had and true to the style. In a blind test I feel you would struggle to know that this was alcohol free.
My only disappointment with this beer was the size of the can being a 330ml – I could easily have had more. Although most Brulo beers do come in this format. I believe they are looking at possibly moving to 440ml in the future.
But overall, this is a great beer and one I think is quite true to the style. So if you enjoy the odd NEIPA but fancy something lower in alcohol give this a try before it’s gone.

Where Can I Buy Brulo King For A Day?
Brulo King For A Day is a limited edition brew, and is unlikely to be around for long.
With this being a limited edition it is quite hard to get hold of and at time of writing the only place I could find it available was direct from the Brulo site.

Overall Verdict
Brulo’s King For A Day is a great example of the NEIPA style in a low ABV package.
As with most of Brulo beers, this comes full of hoppy, fruity flavours, with just about the right level of bitterness, and I definitely think it takes the mouth feel up a level on the other beers. I would like to see this become a regular amongst Brulo’s range, and that it comes in 440ml packaging.
This is one of the best examples available of an alcohol free NEIPA, and I feel that in a blind test you’d be hard pushed to tell this was an alcohol free beer.
