For those of you that may not be aware of Sheppy’s Cider, they are a family-owned operation that has been in business since 1816.
Now run by sixth generation Master of Cider – David Sheppy – he continues to used age-old techniques to brew his range of the finest ciders.
All of the ciders that Sheppy’s create are made from dessert apples, using naturally occurring yeast from the same apples, to create a distinctive, high quality taste.
With that in mind, it’s time to crack open our low alcohol (0.5%) version of their classic cider and see what we think for ourselves!
Initial Review
Looking at the bottle of the Sheppy’s cider I am about to consume, there is nothing fancy about it. A simple bottle, with two simple labels in yellow and white.
From a distance, you can definitely tell its a cider, and up close, the labelling is minimal yet clear.
Upon opening the 500mL bottle, there is almost no noise from any fizz.
There is no updraft of aroma, but putting my nose close to the bottle, there is a delicate apple aroma that smells like any well made cider without any of the sweetness. Although it lacks the strong ‘alcoholic’ whiff, other than that, you probably wouldn’t notice that this contains a lot less alcohol.
Pouring the bottle into the glass, there are two things that are immediately noticeable.
Firstly, the cider is very light, a lot less so than you associate with any mainstream cider brand. And secondly, you notice how little fizz or bubbles there are.
But now for the taste.
The initial taste is fruity, red apple, that is tarte but not too sweet. It is medium bodied, with a bittersweet finish, that is easy to drink due to the lack of fizz.
It certainly tastes like a good cider, but probably a lot less bitter than its alcoholic counterparts.
Drinking a cold bottle on a warm day, is how to best enjoy a cider, and it certainly hits the spot here.
Although refreshing and pleasant to drink, it tends to get too sweet as the bottle nearly empties.
Saying that, I thoroughly enjoyed this non-alcoholic version of Sheppy’s classic cider, and definitely one to add to the re-order list.
Chill well, open on a warm day and enjoy it in the British sun!
Sheppy’s Low Alcohol Classic Cider 500mL Bottle
For this review, I drank from a 500mL amber bottle.

Whilst researching this drink, I came across images of a clear bottle of the same drink. I could not find any information to see if this is a new/ recent change, but I am pretty sure it is the same drink!
Where can I buy Sheppy’s Low Alcohol Classic Cider?
For this review, I picked up my bottle of cider as an individual bottle from Tesco.
However, I have been in multiple Tesco stores, and have only managed to see this stocked in a couple of them
It was purchased in June 2021 for the price of £1.30
However, it is possible to purchase Sheppy’s Low Alcohol Cider from the following places:
